Laboratory Services

We offer same-day results for many routine tests at our hospital, which we perform with our full in-house laboratory. These tests typically include:

  • Complete blood counts
  • Blood chemistry
  • Heartworm testing
  • Urinalysis
  • Fine-needle aspirates
  • Fecal testing

All of these tests can be performed while you wait at your pet’s appointment, and we can obtain results in a matter of minutes. When needed, we can also utilize a commercial veterinary testing lab for more specialized and in-depth diagnostics.

X-Ray and Ultrasound for Dogs and Cats

Our animal hospital in Acton, MA uses digital X-ray and handheld point-of-care ultrasound technology for viewing the internal organs and other structures inside your pet’s body. If we need to check areas such as the bones, joints, heart, and lungs, we’ll recommend X-rays. If we want to look at the abdominal organs or evaluate the heart’s structure and function, we will suggest an ultrasound. We have a specialist come in to perform echocardiograms and comprehensive abdominal ultrasounds, so you can be assured our team is going the extra mile for your pet’s care.

Ultrasound is different from radiography (X-ray) because it uses sound waves to produce moving images of your pet’s internal organs. We can obtain information that X-rays are unable to provide, and make a better diagnosis for your pet.

Internal Medicine

Acton Animal Hospital’s veterinarians are uniquely capable of performing internal medicine workups and treating a wide range of complex chronic diseases in dogs, cats, and exotics. From diabetes and heart disease to kidney disease (common in cats), Cushing’s disease, and various endocrine disorders, there’s very little we can’t manage.
